Prague Map - historic centerPrague has always played an important role in the history of the nation, but also that of the whole of Europe. It has upheld its reputation as one of the most beautiful cities in the world and prominent public figures have paid tribute to it. Prague, the City of One Hundred Spires - an expression first used by writer Josef Hormayer at the beginning of the 19th century. Prague towers were first counted by the mathematician and philosopher Bernardo Bolzano, who reached the number of 103, without including water towers and private houses. In the first third of the last century, some curious enthusiasts counted about 400 towers, their present number being around 500. A more precise number of Prague towers can be determined from very high above the ground only. A few keen experts and lovers of Prague made such an attempt quite recently. Flying over Prague, in a circle with a radius of 3 kilomters and the center being Jindřišská Tower, they counted around 120 major towers, which they took photographs of, documented, measured and described. The total sum of all Prague towers was estimated to be approximately 1,000, not including burgher house turrets. Loading of this map take few seconds ...
